Here we see a typical Belgian ring training scene. Note the muzzle on the dog; although not popular at the moment, trainers for many years would often work a muzzled dog so as to build up the drive even when the dog had to work through being denied his basic weapon.
This was also a way for the helper to be more athletic when working the dog. Modern protection suits have the advantage of modern materials, but fifty or more years a ago it was mostly canvas, jute and leather, which can get very heavy.
Note the rings on the ground, and the equipment in the background.
